Democratic Forum of Germans in Brașov

Str. Gh. Băiulescu 2, Brașov

The Democratic Forum of Germans is an organisation through which Romanian communities of German origin present themselves in the political, social and cultural life of Romania.

Germans in Romania are full citizens of the modern Romanian state. They did not immigrate after it was born but were already here. Since the 12th century, the Transylvanian Saxons have lived in the centre of today's Romania as a politically and ecclesiastically constituted community. Within the state, they were responsible through rights and duties. The Protestant landlers, who migrated from Austria in the 18th century, lived alongside the Saxons. Following the fall of communism in 1989, Germans in Romania established political representation in the Democratic Forum of Germans in Romania (DFGR).
