Cristian Cultural Centre
Cristian, Brașov County
Cristian, a vibrant community in Brasov County, is a mirror of the past blended harmoniously with the present, where every stone and building tells a story. A symbol of local administration, Cristian Town Hall, built in 1929, is an eloquent example of how this community has evolved and adapted to contemporary needs.
A cultural and architectural landmark, the kindergarten, built by the Christoloven Saxons in 1937, is a remarkable example of dedication to the younger generations. The cultural centre, with its impressive Great Hall, with no ceiling and a wide wooden vaulted top, is the heart of cultural life in Cristian. Built by the German community between 1926-1927, this space has witnessed countless events that have enlivened and enriched the life of the community, becoming a symbol of tradition and modernity.
The cinema in Cristian, transformed from a cultural centre with a rich history, completes the cultural landscape of the village, offering the inhabitants a place for meeting and entertainment. This house of culture was also known as the “Association House” or the House of the Transylvanian Association for Romanian Literature and Culture of the Romanian People (also known as ASTRA or Casa ASTRA). Simply and most commonly it is referred to as the Astra Hall. This venue, which once hosted ASTRA's cultural events, continues to be a centre of Cristian's social and cultural life, demonstrating the community's adaptability and dynamism.
