The ASTRA Library is the first public library of Romanians in Transylvania (1869). The oldest book in the library collection is Sexti libri Decretalium..., MDXI (1511) by Pope Bonifacius VIII. The oldest Romanian book in the library collection is the Sbornicul slavonesc, printed by Coresi, in Sas-Sebeș, in 1580. The total holdings of the ASTRA Sibiu County Library, according to the most recent statistics, amount to 813,551 documents and include: books, periodicals, CDs, CD-ROMs, DVDs, audio cassettes, video cassettes, discs, slides, slides, tape-recording tapes, manuscripts, manuscript books, correspondence documents, iconographic documents, old Romanian books (BRV), old foreign books, rare books, cartographic documents, ex-libris, medals and others. The book collection includes documents in German, French, English, Russian, Hungarian, Hungarian, Spanish, Greek, Chinese, Japanese, Italian, Hebrew, Esperanto and is permanently enriched through acquisitions or donations.
Numerous foundations and private donors, libraries and cultural societies in Germany, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Denmark, Austria, Hungary, the USA, Switzerland, Spain, the Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, Austria, Hungary, the USA, Switzerland, Spain, etc. have donated to the library various documents of technical, historical, medical, literary, geographical, etc.
