Ioan-Dragoș Dimitriu

Ioan-Dragoș Dimitriu was born in Brașov and made his international debut in 2011 at the Berlin Philharmonic Hall with Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 5, the “Emperor.” He has since performed as a soloist or chamber musician on numerous stages across Europe and Japan. Dragoș began studying piano at the age of six under the guidance of pianist and university professor Dr. Corina Ibănescu. Together with his mentor, he won over 20 first prizes and five Grand Prizes at national and international piano competitions between 2003 and 2010, including first prize at the International Music Competition in Fundão, Portugal, and first prize at the Romanian National Olympiads between 2003 and 2007. He was also a laureate of the Eurovision Young Musicians competition.
In 2010, he was admitted to the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna, where he studied under Martin Hughes and later with Stefan Arnold. As a soloist and chamber musician, he won first prizes at international competitions such as the “Pietro Argento” International Piano Competition in Italy, the Cameristi dell’Alpe Adria Competition in Italy, and the Casino Austria Rising Stars Award in Vienna (alongside Serbian saxophonist Marko Dzomba).
In 2010, he was admitted to the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna, where he studied under Martin Hughes and later with Stefan Arnold. He founded the artist management agency Aegeria Artists Management in Vienna and the Transylvanian International Piano Competition in Brașov, which has attracted over 100 pianists from around the world. He is also the founder of the youth orchestra Ton der Jugend Symphonieorchester in Vienna, which has brought some of the most talented musicians under 35 from all over the world to stages such as the Golden Hall of the Musikverein and the Konzerthaus in Vienna. Since 2018, he has served as Artist Manager for the Chiemgauer Musikfrühling festival in Germany and the SoNoRo International Chamber Music Festival. In September 2020, he was appointed Manager of the Brașov Philharmonic. In 2022, he launched the pilot project Banca de Cultură Apollonia, which led to the founding of a new cultural institution in Brașov – the Apollonia Cultural Center. As of 2024, Ioan-Dragoș Dimitriu serves as Director of Development and Innovation at SoNoRo.
