Andrei Ioniță is one of the most internationally acclaimed young cellists of the moment, an extraordinary talent with a brilliant technique and musicality. His greatest achievement remains winning the 2015 Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow, an exceptional performance. Andrei Ioniță thus became the first Romanian to win the gold medal at this competition, among the most significant in the world.

Andrei Ioniță began studying piano at the age of 5; he took his first cello lessons at the age of 8. He studied cello with Ani Marie Paladi, while attending the National College of St. Sava in Bucharest; he was a student of Jens Peter Maintz at the University of Arts in Berlin. His record includes other important prizes at the Aram Haciaturian Competitions in Yerevan, the ARD in Munich and the Emanuel Feuermann Competition in Berlin.
